1. Defining the project scope

Does your project have clearly defined requirements? Are you clear on what is in and out of your scope? Do you know what your minimum viable product (MVP) is?

1 = Scope isn't defined

2 = Scope has been discussed

3 = Scope has been broadly agreed

4 = Scope is defined

5 = Scope is clearly defined and well managed

2. Partner Relationship

Have you established good relationships with external partners to support the programme delivery? Have the partner deliverables and timelines been agreed? Do they have a good cultural fit with your organisation and understand your ways of working?

1 = The relationships have been constantly difficult

2 = There is some friction

3 = We are generally working well together

4 = Relationships are positive

5 = Our partners know us well and relations are strong.

3. Establishing Governance

Are all roles & responsibilities for the programme clearly defined, with appropriate risk management, gate reviews and change control processes in place?

1 = Nobody understands who is doing what

2 = We have a basic governance framework

3 = Governance is being established

4 = Governance is established

5 = We have exactly the right levels of governance

4. Communication & Change Management

Do your stakeholders know about the transformation? And are they supportive? Are your messages reaching the right people at the right time and do they generate the right response?

1 = There has been little communication

2 = We have a plan, but communications aren’t effective

3 = Communications are broadly okay

4 = Communications are good

5 = Communications are timely & highly effective

5. Planning For Delivery

Do you have a clearly laid out implementation plan with milestone dependencies? Have you planned for all stages of the programme including design, build testing, training and business readiness? Have you defined the critical path? Has contingency been built into the plan?

1 = We don’t have a delivery plan

2 = Our plan exists but isn’t robust

3 = We have a broad plan for delivery

4 = We have a solid delivery plan

5 = The plan is effective, and everyone is clear on deliverables and dependencies

6. Finance and Budgeting

Is your ERP Programme currently on budget? Do you keep control of what is being spent at any given time? Do you regularly report on budget and spend?

Score your finance & budgeting between 1 and 5

1 = We are way off budget and not keeping track of costs

2 = Budgets are not being tracked effectively

3 = We think we are on budget

4 = Budgets are tracked and look within scope

5 = Budget tracking is in place, realistic and checked regularly

7. Resource and Capability

Do you have the right people in place to deliver the implementation? Are you able to balance your business-as-usual work with programme demands? Does your team have any capability gaps? Is staff turnover in the team a cause for concern?

Score your resource & capability between 1 and 5

1 = We are badly under resourced

2 = We don’t have a full team but are addressing this

3 = Our team have the right skills, but we need more people

4 = We have a strong team and are building capability

5 = We have a full team and there are no issues with turnover or skillset

8. Stakeholder Management

Have you secured the support of key stakeholders in the wider business? Are they continuously engaged, regularly updated, and do you have a good working relationship?

1 = We’re not sure who our key stakeholders are yet

2 = We are struggling to engage key stakeholders

3 = Our key stakeholders are aware of the implementation

4 = Key stakeholders are engaged and supportive

5 = All key stakeholders are fully engaged and advocating the ERP transformation across the organisation

9. Realising Benefits

Are you clear on your project vision and desired outcomes? Will your ERP transformation deliver ROI and do you have the right KPIs and tools in place to measure this?
