Building a balanced project team

With significant investments in change, having the expertise to manage complex IT programmes is the critical capability that enables law firms to operate successfully and differentiate. Whilst helping our legal clients, we see at first hand their challenges with the scarcity of highly-experienced project and programme management talent; talent which is capable of engaging with and empowering the firm’s leaders to act with greater agility and achieve better outcomes.

Without a doubt, building the balanced project team is crucial for delivering change initiatives. In-house project management is often the first-choice route for many good reasons. But many of the firms we work with are at capacity with their current team of IT Project and Change Managers.

We often advise clients to be realistic about what they can achieve with their internal teams, focusing  internal resources on the initiatives that will enable the firm to differentiate, those that will truly set them apart. Adding to the team with external support gives leaders a boost towards making sure critical projects are delivered successfully.

But external support comes in all shapes and sizes. There are a number of considerations to take into account before selecting the right supplier and the right resources to form that balanced project team. We encourage clients to think about some key questions for each type of supplier during the selection process:
